there are people in my family who’ve been disowned because they married someone of a different colour to them… i’m mixed race and the very concept of my existence would’ve been illegal in the us when my parents were born. the supreme court only ruled against discrimination of mixed-race marriages in 1967! that’s barely 50 years ago. homophobia is an awful thing to experience and i know that from first hand experience but i’m begging you to remember that gay people aren’t the only ones being killed for who they love. please remember the struggles faced by Black and brown people when you talk about oppression. please have some solidarity with your nonwhite friends (especially your nonwhite gay friends!) when you talk about dismantling the systems that keep us alone and isolated. please remember the horrible history that is anti-miscegenation laws when you talk about equal marriage rights, because they aren’t just for white gay people.

Basically, because I know Mobile is bad with links, the article points out hat the broad, “sfw only, no titties allowed” wave on the internet in recent years is largely due to Apple’s absolute stranglehold on the App Store. Apple has strict guidelines about NSFW content that choke creators right out of mainstream social media, even on sites like Reddit, for users of their products:
But there are fewer and fewer mainstream sites and services that support porn and adult content, and much of that attitude has grown out of Apple’s strict controls over the App Store and the iOS ecosystem. Steve Jobs famously suggested that “folks who want porn can buy an Android phone,” and Apple has repeatedly leveraged its unprecedented power over millions of smartphones to sanitize the apps that are available on iPhones. Apple does not allow apps “that contain user generated content that is frequently pornographic.” In 2016, Apple famously deleted all third-party Reddit apps that allowed users to toggle NSFW posts on and off; even now, it is impossible to access porn on an iOS Reddit app unless you jump through various hoops.
remember though that this anger isn’t about Being Horny On Main, it’s about sex workers, their platforms and followers, NSFW creators and their art, and adult content communities that are continually being shoved out of spaces they created in recent years:

This is yet another example of a platform ignoring adult content when it helps the platform flourish, and then leaving those users out to dry when it’s time to crack down for some monetary gain or face-saving. In addition to being a terrible way to treat your user base, banning adult content on Tumblr will stifle a lot of creativity.
The communities that will feel this change the most will be the already-marginalized. “Tumblr banning adult content is a huge loss for the LGBTQ community, especially those with overlapping marginalized identities,” Kitty Stryker, a queer porn performer and consent activist, told Motherboard in an email. “For many, that’s the one place we could find porn that represents us, made by indie performers who created their own content outside of an often racist, transmisogynist, fatphobic industry. Tumblr was where our content could exist without pushing us into the restrictions of a misogynist, male dominated workplace.”

Yes, there are some gross (and downright awful and illegal) blogs on tumblr. By all means, get rid of porn bots and blogs that engage in child exploitation. But the vast majority of nsfw blogs here are run by independent content creators who want to make something outside the toxic, misogynistic, heterosexist, cissexist, racist, fatphobic, ableist industry that is mainstream internet porn.
The announcement post was wrong. There aren’t a plethora of other sites offering this content. The big ones offer mostly toxic shit many nsfw creators can’t, and don’t want to be, part of.
Guys, don’t let this fly under the radar just because you think it won’t affect you. It will affect you. It will affect all of us.
Already, a ton of content is being flagged that isn’t even NSFW, and just because something is NSFW doesn’t mean it’s straight up porn.
And for the NSFW content that IS porn, a lot of it is being made by creators who need tumblr to continue their business and their livelihood.
This is absolutely disgusting. Once again, corporations prioritizing money and not even being able to take their heads out of their asses to see they’re hurting their user base and their product.
They couldn’t give a shit about any of the rampant porn bots or pedophilia content until Apple pulled them. And now, instead of cleaning their act they’re putting this blanket ban that’s going to harm all of us. I know I’m repeating a lot of what everybody else is saying but it needs reiteration. We all need to be aware that this is not good.
Sex workers, NSFW artists, purveyors of those, LGBTQ+ content creators, discussions surrounding these topics, body and abortion politics, tasteful nude art, any history that’s mildly racy, literotica- all of it will be erased and silenced under this.
Keep talking about this. Tumblr is one of the sole platforms we have for NSFW content that isn’t corporation owned (i.e. big pornsites). Also, support sites like AO3 that don’t censor their users.

Susan G. Komen for the Cure: CEO makes insane amounts of money, they deny a lot of requests for wigs/help with treatment/etc., and have attempted to sue other charities that use the color pink as part of their anti-breast cancer campaign. ( xxx )
The Salvation Army: They promote the hatred of LGBT+ people, work with fundamentalist Christian groups to support conservative politics and rip off and exploit workers. ( xxx )
Wounded Warrior: They take money that should be spent on veterans and blow it on huge opulent parties for the company bigwigs. 26 million in 2014 alone wasted! ( xxx )
