Anyway the last point I have to make here is that even if tumblr breaks under the algorithm (almost certain if they don’t back out of using it) and/or everybody leaves… I don’t have anywhere else to go or post things
people like to joke about it being bad, but I legitimately really like Tumblr. it actually feels like a blogging platform in a world where facebook and twitter are active political weapons that manipulate us elections. i don’t feel like i’m baring myself to content i don’t want to see here, or having to engage with a popularity-focused culture. the content isn’t sorted to influence you or trick you. it’s a bunch of people being themselves on their own terms. it’s oldnet.
yes, i do use other websites, but i’m not interested in posting personal things to any of them. this was a place i had control over and i’ll stay with it until i can’t. and when that happens there’ll be nothing left.
Setting: Set after DMC-5, very much spoiler free since it’s just me fooling around with headcanons here
Summary: The end of the world has been put to a forceful
stop, the two of them and their loved ones are safe and sound, and it’s as right
in the world as it probably can get.
As for Nero
and Kyrie, this peaceful early mornings such as this might just lead to a whole
new beginning.
Disclaimer: Sadly, I only own the idea, not the characters
(I would wrap them in warm blankets and keep them out of all harm’s way if they
would). I even took the title from the DMC 4 theme “Never surrender”
A thank you
for @duckydrawsart aka @kretsia , who keeps making me smile with their awesome art
– and also because they pointed out that “Capcom
will most likely chicken out and not
have Nero and Kyrie married in DMC 5” and honestly, I couldn’t let that
stand.
Kretsia, if
Capcom does chicken out, you might
consider this a Plan B Happy Ending for these two lovebirds.
When Kyrie
woke up, it was to the feeling of someone else’s warmth seeping into her, a
slow heartbeat in her ears, and a securing arm wrapped around her waist.
Even in her
drowsy state, she hummed happily, turning with her eyes still closed to snuggle
back into the very alive and breathing pillow she was resting on. Fully
intending to indulge in this however long she was able to.
You sound like a fandom pearl-clutcher who hasn’t been through one of these purges. I have been through SEVERAL.
Each time this happens, we split up–some may go to pillowfort, some may go to twitter, some may go to dreamwidth, some may go to discord, some will stay right here, and some will leave us forever.
What you don’t seem to understand is that we’re being divided. People will lose long-lasting relationships over this, having their blogs deleted and losing any ability to find each other again. I had loads of friends during the more livelier times of LiveJournal, and I couldn’t find them ever again, no matter how hard I tried.
These kind of events harm people, turn off countless creators who can and will lose the content they have worked tirelessly over because it’s not saved elsewhere. Have you ever lost a laptop to a crash? It’s this, but in WIDE SCALE. I have thousands upon thousands of words and drawings forever lost to LiveJournal and FFnet’s banishments, things I worked so hard on, and I know countless others have experienced the same.
It’s also not just porn being affected. It’s everything that isn’t squeaky fucking clean for little children. The female nipple, consensual sex, ART IN GENERAL. Censorship is a slippery fucking slope, even on a private website like this, and you’re supporting the silence of people who have worked hard through their lifetimes on the things they love.
Tumblr wants to take away all adult content on the platform, abandoning a large majority of it’s userbase which uses the site for this exact matter. Please sign the above petition if you would like to keep tumblr the way it is. They need to be shown that they will lose a HUGE amount of their traffic if they’re too carry this through.
Sounds drastic. Especially for content creators who may still need Tumblr for commissions while they find an alternative.
If you can swing it, here’s why:
I suspect that the December 17th deadline is so that Verizon/Yahoo can clean house and make Tumblr appealing to investors. This is a Q4/Q1 fire sale kind of thing. It makes a certain amount of business sense to make this change. Human-lead content curation (e.g. separating the CP from the legit) is expensive and time-consuming. I doubt they have the money for it. They already sold off Flickr. As a long-time Flickr pro user, I’m not pleased by the change and increase in pro account price, but I get it.
Investors are looking for a user base. User base is a prime attraction for investment or buy-out for a social media platform or application (I speak from experience as a co-founder of Rhinobird.tv).
Every account that is cancelled will be one less account in Tumblr’s user base for their pitch. I assume that there are millions of accounts with some percentage simply being abandoned accounts that haven’t been used in years. So cancelling one’s account on the way out the door won’t really matter unless the number of cancelled accounts reaches several hundred thousand at least.
If you decide to leave and cancel, then I also recommend sending a polite message to Tumblr staff, or tweet to the account about why you are leaving.
Finally, using Twitter to voice your concerns and thoughts about this issue will increase its visibility. They ain’t gonna like that. Media outlets that cater to tech entrepreneurs, and Silicon Valley types are going to be all over this.
I never ask for reblogs, but I will this one time.
