I hate myself for this but I can’t get the thought of Goblin Slayer having a blog with a prominent “GOBLIN APOLOGISTS DONT INTERACT” in the description.

to the people saying Goblin Slayer would be better with more nuanced villains and giving the goblins more depth, you need to remember something about GS.
It’s not some deep thinking Dark Fantasy series where questions of humanity and mortality mingle with magic and grand adventure.
It’s the anime equivalent of a Grindehouse movie. Lot’s of gore, monsters, and monsters getting gored.
Don’t believe me? Replace the goblins with zombies. Literally nothing changes except that they are slightly dumber.
Would it be better with better written villains? Yeah probably, but it doesn’t need a better villain, goblins serve the purpose just fine on their own, being despicable, universally evil creatures that are easy to hate and enjoyable to watch get brutally murdered by our main guy.
Just turn your brain off and have some damn fun.

Goblin Slayer: *remembers that Goblins are still a thing*
Goblin Slayer: Actually on second thought no, fuck that.
Later on, it becomes

No, for real tho, if you hear the description “Small and greedy for gold and jewels” and you instantly think “Jews”, YOU’RE THE PROBLEM HERE.
I think you can like Goblin Slayer and be self aware that it uses trashy exploitation tactics for shock and how that wont be okay for everyone. Like I don’t get mad when strangers don’t like Re-animator.
I’d like to say that the reaction to Goblin Slayer was surprising….but it really wasn’t.
Though, I will admit, it is understandable…to a degree. Because, and fans of GS please be honest here, this series can be really exploitative with the r*pe scenes, especially early on, and can be a bit gratuitous at times with all the gore and violence. I like this series a lot, but even I can admit that sometimes those scenes are there…just to remind the viewers that yes goblins are super evil and stuff when we kinda got that message the first few times.
What bother’s me more than anything about these responses are that so many people, so many people that are known for being more levelheaded than this and usually willing to give things a fair chance, are being so….knee jerky about this.
Already people are panning this show as awful and terrible and it’s only been one episode. Goblin Slayer has it’s issues sure, I’d hardly call it A+ material, but there is more to it than just the violence and…that.
Again, I get it, the subject matter isn’t something small or insignificant, and light novels are pretty infamous for exploiting this particular crime to rise the stakes in a cheap way, but Goblin Slayer is not cheap.
If you really cant stand even the sight of that, than by all means don’t watch it, but I still think people should give it a chance. Don’t we have that 3 episode rule for a reason?
